Attention Technology and Innovation in Education (TIE) Bookstudy Group

Thank your for reading and studying Inevitable: Mass Customized Learning. Bea
McGarvey and I are honored that you are interested in our vision for education
and educators. Let me hear from you with your questions or comments and I will
respond online . . . or, should the questions require lengthy elaboration, I
might make a few comments and then follow up on the question when we can have a
real give and take dialogue.

Mass Customized Learning (MCL) is certainly a paradigm shift . . . no tinkering
allowed. And for sure, it's hard to think OTB when we have spend our whole
lives in school as a learner and teacher. But the rewards are great . . . and
moving something as important as education into the Information Age and student
learning into the age of empowerment is . . . . well, INEVITABLE.

I look forward to our time together on March 14. In the meantime, tis OK to
drop a note to chuckschwahn@yahoo.com or leave a comment on our blog. (cjs)

Our book study group has really been enjoying reading and discussing MCL. Our state is undergoing massive budget cuts, with education funding slated to slashed by 10%. How do you suggest we approach any new and innovative ideas in this economic climate?

Everything I have read in Inevitable-MCL has been exciting or got me questioning what we currently do in schools. Could you please provide some links to schools that are using MCL?

Hey Jolene . . . $$$ to implement MCL should not influence the school budget negatively. In the long run we believe that technology will actually be less expensive than textbooks and other materials. We aren't selling MCL as a money saver, but neither do we want our vision to be set aside because of dollars. (cjs)

Hey Tracy . . . MCL is a new vision and as so, there are no good examples out there where it is being implemented as described in Inevitable. The MCL vision however is based on the best research we have about students and learning and teachers and teaching. Every new vision needs to begin somewhere and with someone. We think that the MCL vision makes so much sense that it must be tried. We have little doubt that it has the power to transform education. We are hoping that TIE can be the catalysts for making MCL happen. (cjs)

My book study group has been discussing this book and coming up with many different ideas relating to MCL. There are so many valuable ideas that could be incorporated into my school district, but it would require many different changes and the proper funding in order to implement any of these ideas into our school system.
