FLASH . . . MCL Fieldbook NOW AVAILABLE!

Great news today! It's Inevitable: Customized Teaching and Learning -- a Fieldbook For and From the Field has been completed, published, and is now available on Amazon.com.

Those of you who have read Inevitable: Mass Customized Learning know that the book describes, in detail, a desirable and doable vision that makes it possible to meet the learning needs of every learner, every hour, of every day. But how to get started? How to get your team or system moving? Those are the questions we receive from our colleagues who want to make something happen . . . and want something to happen now. It's Inevitable: Customized Teaching and Learning answers those questions and provides step-by-step suggestions as to how to get moving . . . moving in the right direction. Each "tool" also includes a story that makes the process inviting, real, and doable. The writing style of the Fieldbook is much like Inevitable -- serious, yet conversational and fun. Think of the Fieldbook tools as the "on-ramp" to the MCL freeway. (I love that metaphor that Jim and his team coined.)

Dr. Jim Parry, founder and former director of Technology and Innovation in Education, is Lead Editor of the publication. Dr. Nancy Hall and Dr. Patricia Peel, two highly regarded innovative thinkers, are also members of the "executive team" who made the practical "how to do it" field book a reality. We are most grateful to Jim and his team . . . and to TIE, our Inevitable partners. (cjs)

AASA Convention

I have the opportunity to talk to people at the AASA convention about Leadership, Learning Communities, and Mass Customized Learning in Denver on Friday, February 18. Come join Bill Spady and me at 2:30 and listen and learn about our truly transformational vision for public schools. Tis our professions opportunity to leapfrog the Industrial age delivery of student learning opportunities. (cjs)

Inevitable . . . the Book

Our webpage was created to extend and support our soon-to-be-published book titled Inevitable: Mass Customized Learning. After publishing books using the services of publishing companies we decided to self-publish Inevitable. We are self-publishing through the services of CreateSpace which is a subsidiary of Amazon.com. We are getting fast, professional, and helpful services . . . they are actually treating us like customers.

An aside . . . Amazon leapfrogged brick and mortar bookstores by selling books online, then leapfrogged physical book sales with Kindle, and are now appearing to leapfrog publishers . . . and publishers seem be oblivious to what is happening. Amazon, of course, is not the only place to self-publish. There are many options available . . . if you are thinking of writing and publishing, we encourage you to consider self-publishing. But know that there are pluses and minuses.

We expect Inevitable to be available in about two to three months. We are attempting to speed the process . . . we will keep you posted when we have a more definite date. Inevitable will also be available on Kindle. For now, you can see a detailed explanation of each chapter and can download three chapters of Inevitable on our webpage.

We are very receptive to feedback on our webpage. We are quite new at this and are looking for opportunities to make it fit your needs. This is also true of blogging . . . new at that too. Feedback accepted. cjs

Welcome

Our Mass Customized Learning (MCL) vision at this point is quite detailed but needs to continue to grow and expand. MCL is very new and its implementation demands significant systemic change . . . and that is an understatement.

We wish to make our Mass Customized Learning Blog highly interactive. We want to hear from you, we want to answer questions, we want to share experiences and successes. In short, we want to create a dialogue that will help us and help you to grow.

Our expertise includes leadership, future-focusing, strategic design/planning, the change process, and effective instructional strategies. Both Bea (McGarvey) and Chuck (Schwahn) have had extensive consulting experiences on these topics . . . mostly with schools but also with business and industry.

The purpose of our website and of our blog is to inform, to learn, and to influence. Our personal missions are “That People Grow.”

We often use the quote . . . from where or from whom we don’t know . . . “None of us is as smart as all of us.” We are passionate and committed to our work, but we are not “know-it-alls.” At least we hope not.
